Newcastle Council have presented options to the community on how to manage the coastline.
Sand Nourishment
A process where Newcastle Council will place millions of cubic metres of sand on the beach ……..and then replace it every time the sea strips it away…..
1,300,000m3 is equivalent to over 16,000 B-double truck movements
Protection
Building structures that will protect access to Bar Beach and the infrastructure behind it…… just like every other beach in Newcastle.
Retreat
Do nothing, letting infrastructure be undermined and forcing the closure of Memorial Drive and the destruction of Empire Park.
What could “retreat” look like for Bar Beach?
Permanent closure of Memorial Drive and 1000’s of cars per day finding another way around the city.
